- Fill a medium saucepan with all ingredients except the honey and bring to a boil.
- Reduce to a simmer and cook covered for about 45 to 60 minutes until the liquid has reduced by almost half.
- Remove from heat and let cool for about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Strain into a glass jar or bowl and let cool further for another 10 to 15 minutes.
- Then stir in honey and enjoy!
- To store the elderberry syrup, pour into a pint-size mason jar or 16-ounce glass bottle and store in the refrigerator.
- The standard dose for cold or flu prevention is 1/2 to 1 teaspoon for kids and 1/2 to 1 tablespoon for adults a day. If recovering from a cold or flu, increase the frequency of the standard dose to every 3 to 3 hours until symptoms disappear.
