Although both matcha powder and green tea leaves are both from the same plant, matcha is not quite the same as the commonly known green tea leaves. Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Matcha is richer and more intense in flavor. The bitter undertone sometimes makes matcha less palatable than the more popular green tea leaves. But in terms of nutritional value, matcha is also more intense and dense than green tea leaves.
Matcha powder is packed with antioxidants including the powerful EGCg. Regular consumption of matcha powder has been shown to have positive impacts on your body’s metabolism and therefore helps you burn calories and lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Matcha powder is also very rich in fiber, chlorophyll and a ton of essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc, and magnesium. All these essential nutrients are important for maintaining a healthy and efficiently functioning body. Matcha green tea can also help lower your cholesterol and blood sugar, calm your mind and relax your body.
There are so many different convenient ways to consume matcha these days, from tea to chocolate to pastries and ice cream. If you have tried matcha green tea before and found it a little too bitter for your palate, you might want to give this recipe a try and you will be surprised at how delicious healthy matcha can be with the sweetness from the honey and shredded coconut.
